1. ASSESSING THE STATUS OF THE FACULTY

Faculty of Basic Sciences was re-established in 2006, according to Decision No. 83/QD-TCCB of Thai Nguyen University. In the past 15 years, the Faculty of Basic Sciences has made significant contributions to improve human resources for training, scientific research and technology transfer with the development of the University. Currently, the organizational structure of the faculty includes 02 divisions and 07 specialized groups, 46 staff (including 05 part-time lectures, 01 visiting lecturer, 36 full-time lecturers, 04 contract lecturers). The faculty includes 01 Associate Professor, 14 PhDs, 15 PhD candidates and16 Masters.

Foreign language and computer competence: 100% of the faculty's staff have IC3 qualifications; 33/46 = 71.7% of the lecturers have foreign language qualifications from B1, B2 Europe, TOEFL, IELTS.

Political theory: Deans of the faculty have qualifications.

  1. General assessment

* Strength:

- The staff are enthusiastic, responsible and dedicated. They have good pedagogical skills.

- Computer skills and foreign language competence meet the requirements in the new situation. Some lecturers participate in teaching advanced programs, exchange and cooperate with foreign partners.

- The staff are always pioneers in cultural and sports activities of the University.

- The whole faculty always promotes the solidarity and the leadership team has concurrency.

- The faculty always receives the attention of the University's leaders.

* Weaknesses:

 - The proportion of highly qualified human resources (Doctor, Assoc. Prof) is still low.

- Scientific research is still limited because of the less experience in planning high-level proposals.

 - Foreign language competence is still low so the international integration has not developed.

- The high ratio of female staff 34/46 (74%) makes difficulties in balancing labor, studying, and improving qualifications.

* Opportunities:

- Strong integration process in education creates many opportunities for lecturers to study in advanced countries around the world.

- The staff are granted autonomy in professional activities and proposing solutions to contribute to the University development.

* Challenge:

- The international integration in education creates great challenges in terms of human resources to meet teaching requirements.

- The employers’ need is increasing so training quality and output standards have to meet social needs.

- Facilities are limited so they don’t serve the requirements of credit management and training.
